Ashes by: Ilsa J. Bick

Ilsa Bick created a dark and suspenseful novel that is based on the apocalypse with a twist of sci-fi. The world might as well be renamed Hell cause that is what is life is going to be like for Alex, Ellie, and Tom if they are to survive the new world. The world is beautifully chaotic, I suppose beautiful is the wrong word but it the world was beautifully written. The details are finely woven and fit together snuggly creating a dark, freaky, and beautiful illusion.
Alex's character is a crafted to be pure strength especially when life throws her a cruel hand. She doesn't lay down curl up into a ball and take the beating she fights back, but everyone has a breaking point. The back story that prepares Alex for the road ahead of her is a tragic one put for better or worse it mentally and physically it keeps her alive through things that most wouldn't want to survive.
Ellie is an eight year old girl who has lost everyone she has ever loved. She is lost but she finds two people who are barley adults them selves to look after her, even if she doesn't like them. Being an orphan is hard enough, but she has the back bone to survive even with the entire world against her. She is a little girl with attitude and hidden strength.
Now Tom is a pure mystery that you cant help but love. Tom's background also prepares him for the road ahead without to much disbelief. With many layers and talents he is the strength that keeps the girls from losing all hope even when he has lost it. As the book goes on you see more of him that makes you want to smack him and Alex to wake them up before its to late.
Around halfway through the book major events occur that make you want to scream and throw way the book because you just want things to go your way but you cant cause that would mean not knowing what actually happens. Now their is one more character that is essential to the story but I don't want to spoil it. So the unnamed character is a complete mystery that you just don't know what to do with. Your not sure what you want because you arrr. Never mind the last two sentences I don't want to spoil anything if some actually does read my blog and wants to try Ashes.
So I love the book it is an incredible rollercoaster and I cant wait to read the next book. If you like Maze Runner or Arena One: Slave Runners you defiantly wan to check this out at the nearest library.
