Ok so I just finished reading this book and I loved it. Right away I realized Katy and I had a lot in common. I love to read I am always found with my nose in a book, so when I started reading Obsidian I immediately loved Katy and I thought that her writing a blog was a really cool idea so yes I thought maybe I could try it. Probably a little dorky but I have never disagreed when being called a dork.
Now my thoughts on Obsidian are rather positive. The world Jennifer created was vivid and easy for me to see in the minds eye. I love the character building of both Dee and Daemon, especially Daemon (talk about yum and a headache). The character of Daemon is complex but was surprisingly easy to understand the further you got into the book and as Katy got to know him. How she hasn't punched him the first time or second or well third time they meet is beyond me, but I do have a short temper. The struggle for him to remain in control is remarkable and what I mean by remarkable is that he has no control. I understand were he is coming from with the whole no falling in love with a human thing and his brother, but well guys apparently human or not do not know how to use words! Not to mention after a totally hot make out session and frying her laptop he just gets up and leaves like nothing just happened. Now if I were her after that I would either be to speechless to even think coherently or punch the living day lights out of him the next time she saw him and hopefully break his nose. Yeah he defiantly has the jackass gene down, and the hot one to.
Ok now Dee. I have a best friend just like her and I love her but I seriously hate her ability to eat anything and everything without having to buy new jeans. Now I can eat like there is no tomorrow but then I have to do serious workouts to burn it off. Ok so back to Dee, her cheery and playful demeanor is well crafted without it being bubbly and annoying. How Jennifer did it no clue, I dabble in writing a bit but most of my characters are a bit on the surly side. Now Dee herself has a temper when it comes to Daemons overprotectiveness and down right mean side. Dee's character has pain that sometimes counter acts the happy, but she is good at putting on a good face and enjoying the moment.
The explanation to all the freaky in smallville. The story is a clever one I read one like it in a Shelly Crane novel, but Jennifer spun it on its head and made it her own. I love it when an author wrights the story and the back story so well that there isn't any confusion in the how or why. The Luxen super powers are so well describe that I'm jealous. With the added conflict of Ash and Simon is enough boil the explosive mixture of Katy and Daemon. And the storyline is exciting and is so well written it keeps you at night wondering when Daemon and Katy are going to get over them selves. In the first book Daemon defiantly has this problem. And in the second it is to be Katy, of course Daemon hasn't portrayed his true character so when and if he does then we will see what Katy thinks.
So all in all its a good read, not a minute wasted and it has left me famished for more.
